DWF

System

Q

A

DWF is the basic system of Work-Factor. Is DWF still being used?

Yes, DWF is still being used:
- In RWF in the short cycle tables for instructors especially,
- During the education for WF instructor attention is paid to DWF.
- Amongst WF analysts there is at least 1 DWF analyst and user.

RWF

System

Q

A

Is RWF an universal system, meaning the same system all over the world?

In general: Yes, but small and larger differences between the various RWF systems of the various Work-Factor societies do exist. So, there are differences between RWF (Dutch) and WFS (German) at the interpretation i.e. of Simultaneous for multiple grasps, and the number of variables in Assemble.
At this moment a mutual committee of WFC and WFGD is installed to describe the differences and making proposals for solving these differences. To date July 18th 2009, minor differences on Transportation, Grasp, Preposition and Release have been resolved.

VWF

System

Q

A

Is VWF an universal system, meaning the same system all over the world?

Because development of VWF (Dutch) or WFK (German) was carried out by the WFC and the WFGD in the early 80-ies, there is just one and the same official VWF/WFK system.
The VWF/WFK system is hardly used in Germany.

For process times the time values in VWF may be given in VU’s or in seconds and at T75 or T80. Is it possible to enter any other tempo?

No, this is not possible. The intrinsic, select, tempo of VWF is T75 Bdx. Process times are often “machine” times and are often measured in seconds or (centi)-minutes. The normal tempo or standard tempo in many companies is T80 Bdx. Therefore, it is convenient to be able to enter process time in seconds T80 and let VWF recalculate into VU’s T75.

BWF

System

Q

A

Is BWF an universal system, meaning the same system all over the world?

As from December 2008 some minor differences between BWF (Dutch) and WFB (German) are resolved. So, there is one and the same official system.
The BWF/WFB system is hardly used in the Netherlands.

Mento
Compact

System

Q

A

Is Mento Factor still being used and when should the system be used?

As far as we know, the WF-C is not (very) much in use lately, except for the very small MF part available in the standard RWF, WVF and BWF analyses. That is a missed opportunity for industry when quality control and improvement is concerned in setting up standards for quality control.
An operator or quality controller usually is assigned the task to “just” and “quickly” check the product or process if it is OK. There is hardly any opportunity for education or training in quality control and where it does exist the education and training is very inappropriate. Eventually, the number of disqualified products is the same as the number accepted by managment !!!

Section 1

Q

A

Which WF systems are widely used in f.i. The Netherlands, Belgium and Germany?

In the Netherlands mostly used systems are VWF and RWF, in that order. A few times MF-C is used, as part of RWF or VWF.
In Belgium it will be more or less the same situation as in The Netherlands; because of the long history of close cooperation in both countries through Philips NV.
In Germany mostly used systems are WFS (RWF), WFB and somewhat less MF-C.

In Philips NV factories all over the world, the RWF and VWF systems are widely used.
